Liu Cixin - The Dark Forest(#2) review

Earth is under surveillance by trisolarans using sophons which can see anything. Anything that is except human minds. Humanity therefore chooses 3 wallfacers(which is an awesome concept by the way) which have all the resources of humanity to create a plan to stop the invasion. I could say that the book revolves around these wallfacers, but it’s more complicated and it would not do the book justice.
You get the feeling reading the books written by Liu Cixin that he knows exactly what he intends to write. It’s been a long time since I’ve read a book I could not at least guess how the author will want to end. His mind seems to work differently than mine. So this is definitely worth reading.
As with the previous books, the character’s motivations seem strange to me, but they’re still believable and don’t subtract one bit from the enjoyment of the book.
Again I have to reiterate that the ideas presented in the book are so so interesting! The books are more frameworks in a way to present these ideas. The author has a pessimistic view of life in the Universe and the interactions that develop between species that meet.
After having read a few of the books written by Brandon Sanderson(“Mistborn”) I think that the authors are similar in that while Sanderson uses his books to present his ideas about magic, Liu Cixin uses his to present his physics ideas.
The descriptions of physics in this book are incredibly well made. The author clearly has a deep grasp on the subject.
I am writing this review after finishing the third book - Death’s End and I would say even if you don’t like the second book as much as the first, the third book is amazing and you should definitely read it.

Pros:
- Amazing ideas as usual
- No way to figure out what will happen
- Clear explanations of how everything works
Cons:
- At times the explanations go into too much detail

Grade : 7 out of 10.
